
The Family Law Amendment (Family Violence) Bill 2010 has been referred to Committee for enquiriy - again.This Bill changes the Family Law Act to improve safety for children and women in family law.Sole Parents' Union urges everyone with an interest in children's safety to make a submission.

Since Arthur Freeman was found guilty of murdering his four-year-old daughter, Darcey, much of the media focus has been on the distress of fathers going through separation and custody disputes. There has been a call for more support for fathers. However, we must ask ourselves whether we are losing sight of the victims and, more importantly, whether this is the best approach to preventing these deaths from occurring in the future.
We all know somebody - or a few somebodys - who have given up questioning Centrelink or the Child Support Agency because "it's just too difficult".Well now that phenomena has a name - "appeal fatigue". This is the name the Ombudsman coined when investigating the Centrelink appeals process.
